Q. Where is Kursk and what is the climate there like?

A. Kursk is a cultural and scientific center, situated in the center of Russia with a population of 500,000. The climate is moderate with the average temperature in summer being +25 and in winter –6 to –8 C.

Q. Where in Kursk is the University situated?

A. The University is situated in the very centre of the city. All Teaching Hospitals to which the university is affiliated are nearby with the furthest being approx. 30 minutes away.

Q. What year was KSMU founded?

A. The Kursk State Medical University was founded in February 1935 and is sponsored by the Russian Government.

 Q.  How many   Faculties   and  Departments does the University have?

A. 11 Faculties and 70 Departments.

 Q. Is KSMU recognised by The WHO, General Medical Council,  and other countries?

A: Yes

 Q. What Undergraduate programmes does the University offer me in English?

A: Medicine (6 years), Dentistry (5 years), and Pharmcy (5 years till the M.Sc.)

Q.What Graduate programmes are available?

A: Internships, Residency programmes and Post-graduate courses are available in 54 Medical specialities

Q. How long is the academic Year?
A. The year consists of 2 semesters. Fall semester- September 1st-January 12th. Spring semester- February 12th -June 15th

 Q. How often can I visit my family?

A: Students usually travel home during the winter and summer vacations (In January and June)

 Q. What percentage of students live on campus?
A: Approx. 85% of our students live in college residence halls; the rest commute either from off-campus housing or from home.

 Q. Where will I live?

A: All students are guaranteed a place in student dormitories. Options are also available to rent a furnished apartment at a very low cost.

Q. Does KSMU have many student clubs, organisations and sports?

A. KSMU has more than fifty clubs and organisations that are open to student membership.

Q. What Security services are offered by KSMU?

A: Security officers are on duty twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week on campus and in the student dorms.

Q. Can I prepare for my  PLAB, AMC and USMLE exams while I am at KSMU?

A. Yes. Study guides, preparation material and individual student counselling is available for the foregoing examinations.

Q. Will I be eligible for financial aid and scholarships?     

A. A limited number of merit-based scholarships are on offer each year, depending on individual achievement.
